Milking Process in Nandini Dairy Delights
PHILOSOPHY-

If you want to succeed in any kind of business, then you have to keep in mind a few things-

1. You have to be faithful to your customers if you want to build up a strong bond with them. Remember, the merrier the customer, the bigger your market share and hence, the bigger your bank balance.

2. Always give first priority to your customer instead of your profit. There may be some instances when you may think that by providing service to any customer you may incur losses and may be your mind might not agree with the fact of continuing connected with that customer but instead of instantly breaking off with them, you should first try to eradicate the issues. Remember customers are a part of your family and nobody wants to breakup with their family, so just help them out with the issues to the maximum extent.
3. Always be patient regarding your business. There are always ups and downs in it. Sometimes you may be so depressed that you feel like giving up but that is the time God is testing your will power. Never give up, never backdown. If success was so easy to get then everyone on this earth would have been successful. There is a reason why hardwork and dedication are important.  Face your problems and find a way to solve them instead of becoming a part of the problem.

4. Bottom line- Keep your customers happy and they will do the same.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR COWS?
Dear all my lovely people, there are various aspects regarding which we should be very careful while choosing our cows. A lot of young farmers who don’t have any or much experience regarding dairy farming, make a lot of irrevocable mistakes while selecting their cows. I did too. Due to those mistakes they suffer losses and then surrender under the pressure of cash crunch and depression. I made it through that stage but a lot of our friends aren’t that fortunate. So at least I have the moral obligation to tell you people a few things regarding how to avoid those mistakes, which I couldn’t, but our future dairypreneurs can, from now on, without suffering any losses.

The best step by step guide to choose a better milking cow for your Dairy.

Steps to be followed

1.  The first and foremost thing while buying cows is that you should have adequate knowledge about the breed of the cows. In India, generally people only have one notion that either the cow is Desi or American. But actually there are many breeds of cows of which some are pure breeds and some are crossbreeds.
For e.g. if we talk about Indian pure breeds, then the best of them are namely the lal sindhi, sahiwal, tharparkar, rathi, Gir.

There are many more varieties but these are the best Indian breeds. Out of all of these, Gir is the best with the best milk yielding capacity. The Gir has been used extensively for making hybrid varieties of cows all over the world and mainly Brazil.

The fat content and the genetic signature of all these Indian breeds is mind blowing as well as they are well accustomed to our country’s weather and are almost disease proof, but the main problem with these breeds is their very long dry period. If you are going to buy it for personal purpose then they are the excellent choice, but, if you have to purchase them for commercial purpose, then they are not profitable at all.

Now if we talk about the foreign pure exotic breeds available in India, then the most popular one’s is the Holstein Friesians (HF). There are also The Brown Swiss, Jersey, Fleckvieh, etc. But HF’s are the best due to their high milk yielding capacity. Now the problem with the foreign exotic breeds is that they aren’t accustomed to our harsh Indian environment. So if you buy a pure exotic breed then you will have to ensure proper arrangements regarding the housing and feeding and what not of the cow, so that the cow feels as comfortable as possible.

Taking care of pure breeds is easy only in their native regions, but not in foreign places, where they aren’t accustomed to live. There is a high risk of them falling ill, as well as it requires a lot of expenditure to make the proper arrangements for them.

So, my point is that, you should choose hybrid varieties of cows for dairy purposes in India. The benefit of hybrid varieties is that they have qualities of both the Indian indigenous breed bull and also the exotic breed mother. Therefore, they can withstand the harsh temperatures prevailing in India, without getting sick and also have high milk yielding capacity and additionally less dry period thus, escalating the profits.
Dairy cows and their quality check.

2. The second thing that you should keep in mind while selecting cows is that you should purchase them from areas nearby you as much as possible. The reason being is that the cows living near your geographical vicinity will be already accustomed to the climate of your area, so you would not have to make special arrangements or take special care of that cow.

Sometimes people buy cows from areas having totally different climate than their own area. This brings a sudden drop in the milking capacity of the cow, and can also additionally hinder the health of the cow because the cow isn’t able to cope up with the sudden change in the climate. The farmer then has to take adequate measures (medical/infrastructural) for the recovery of the cow as well as its milk capacity. This adds up to the loss of the farmer.

3. Now, the next important thing, which you should keep in mind while getting a cow from any seller is that “NEVER EVER BELIEVE WHAT THE SELLER TELLS YOU”. Always remember this one thing, if you want to be successful in dairy business. Every time you visit a seller, that should be right before the milking time, whether he be a peasant or a professional seller, first of all THAT SHOULD BE A SURPRISE FOR HIM SO THAT HE DOESN’T GET ANY TIME TO TRY A TRICK OR TWO ON THE COW FOR TEMPORARILY INCREASING THE MILK FOR THE TIME BEING.

P.S. There are ways to do so, which we will discuss in my upcoming articles.

Now have a look at the cow closely.

Just look at the size of the udder, the milk vein(the thicker the vein, the larger the milk yield), the level of the teats(it should be either equal or the front teats should be slightly larger than the rear ones).
Always take your personal doctor whenever you go to buy a cow.  He will not only tell you about the various statistics of the cow but he will also help you to take a wise decision too.

4.  Whenever you purchase a cow, then you should make sure that you have the same feed present in your dairy as was given to the cow before. This is important because a sudden change in the diet of the cow can cause a sudden drop in her milk production as well as it also hinders the metabolism of the cow. Therefore, feed the cow with the older feed along with the new feed (in small quantity) for a few days and gradually start increasing the new feed day by day until the cow gets accustomed to it and relishes it. After that switch over completely to your own feed.

5. One last, but the most important thing, which you have to keep in mind is that “NEVER PURCHASE A COW WHICH HAS EITHER HAD A DELIVERY RECENTLY (IMMEDIATELY TO 15 DAYS) OR IS GOING TO HAVE ONE SHORTLY (WITHIN THE NEXT 2 TO 10 DAYS).” There are various reasons behind this concept, which we will discuss in my next article.

Ingredients: Cow’s Milk & Almond Milk

Cow's milk : A simple nutritious choice

Ingredients

Here’s some good news: If you enjoy providing your family simple, real foods, don’t forget about a classic that’s just as delicious and nutritious as you remember it: real cow’s milk.

Cow’s milk is milk with added vitamin A and vitamin D, and here’s something you may not have realized: Real cow’s milk contains more naturally occurring nutrients and fewer ingredients than most other beverages available.

If you’re lactose intolerant, check out lactose-free cow’s milk – it’s still real cow’s milk and has all of the benefits of milk, without the lactose.

So the next time you’re at the store, you can feel good knowing that when you choose real cow’s milk, you’re making a good choice for your family.
Milk Allergy or Lactose Intolerance? Only Your Doctor Can Tell

“Any allergies?”

Allergy or Lactose Intolerance

Years ago, doctors may have been the only ones asking this, but today the question can come up at restaurants, in schools and other locations. If you find yourself saying “yes,” but have never officially been diagnosed, now is the time to find out.

From milk to peanuts to shellfish, people can suffer from a variety of allergies. Unfortunately, some may learn incorrect information about an allergen and misdiagnose, thereby depriving themselves of some tasty – and nutritious – foods.

For example, many people, including some dietitians and physicians, confuse lactose intolerance with a milk allergy. A misdiagnosis can lead to unnecessarily avoiding dairy and result in unintentional health consequences.

Here’s a look at some key differences between lactose intolerance and a milk allergy:

Lactose Intolerance
Sensitivity to milk sugar (lactose)
Gastrointestinal response from an inadequate ability to digest lactose
Rare in young children
Individuals can enjoy milk and milk products with simple management strategies
Milk Allergy

Reaction to milk protein (e.g. casein)
Triggered by the immune system
Generally impacts young children; may be outgrown*
Individuals should avoid milk and milk products (unless allergy is outgrown)
Not sure what you may suffer from? Visit your doctor to find out if you have lactose intolerance or if it’s something else.

*Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America: Milk Allergy

Milk Allergy: Cow’s Milk vs. Goat’s Milk

If your child has been diagnosed with cow’s milk allergy and you are looking for an alternative to cow’s milk formula to feed your baby (or cow’s milk for a child older than one year), you may wonder whether goat’s milk is a good substitute. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), “Most children with cow’s milk allergy are also allergic to milk from goats or sheep, so these are not good substitutes.”

In order to explain why, it’s important to first understand milk allergies. A milk allergy is a reaction between the immune system’s antibodies and the proteins (whey and/or casein) found in milk or cow’s milk formula, causing symptoms such as rashes, vomiting and/or diarrhea. A true milk protein allergy usually appears in the first year of life, when an infant’s digestive system is still quite immature. A person with cow’s milk protein allergy is very likely to also have an allergic reaction to the protein in sheep or goat’s milk because the immune system sees the proteins as similar.
Milk Allergy: Cow’s Milk vs. Goat’s Milk

The main strategy for managing a milk protein allergy is to eliminate milk and milk products from the diet.

Infants under 12 months who are not breastfed and are found to be allergic to cow’s milk formula may be given alternatives like soy or elemental formula, according to your pediatrician’s advice. Soy-based formula (or soy beverages for children older than one year) may or may not be suitable for milk-allergic infants or children because some who are sensitive to cow’s milk are also unable to tolerate soy protein.

A child over the age of one year – the age at which a child can begin drinking cow’s milk -- who has a cow’s milk allergy will need to avoid cheese, yogurt, ice cream and any food that contains milk or milk ingredients. A child who avoids cow’s milk may miss out on milk’s important nutrients. Milk is the number one food source of nine essential nutrients in American children’s diets, including those important for bone mineralization and growth, like calcium and vitamin D. A registered dietitian nutritionist can help you choose foods with care to replace these lost nutrients.

The good news is if you are diligent in helping your milk-allergic child avoid all milk products and milk ingredients, they are likely to outgrow the allergy by age of six years. Reintroducing milk back into the diet should be done with the guidance of a physician.
Does Milk Cause Acne?

Have you heard about this yet?

No Acne by the use of dairy products
.Most of you have probably experienced acne at one time or another and know that it affects more than just your skin. It is something that no one wants to deal with, potentially causing scars and can contribute to low self-esteem. Approximately 85 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 experience at least minor acne. We sometimes get the question: Does milk cause acne? Myths about acne are common, which is why we wanted to help debunk the myth that drinking milk causes acne.

While some observational studies may have presented a link between milk and increased risk of acne; these studies need to be evaluated through clinical trials to determine cause and effect. And, the fact is that the body of research to date does not show cause and effect that diet or any particular food causes acne.

In fact, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, a balanced, nutrient-rich eating plan can help keep skin healthy. And dairy foods, like low-fat and fat-free milk, cheese and yogurt, are an important part of a healthy eating plan, providing a unique package of nine essential nutrients. Removing dairy foods, or any food group for that matter, from your eating plan can actually have a negative impact on nutrient consumption.

So rather than focusing on removing specific foods to promote healthy skin, concentrate on a healthy balanced eating plan that contains all food groups, including dairy foods. If you are concerned about acne please consult a dermatologist for appropriate treatment, but remember that you can still enjoy dairy.
